Ensuring the Freedom of Information

The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is designed to ensure that the public has access to information about their government and its decision-making process. As a government body, the Itasca Park District has a duty to ensure that Illinois residents can obtain information about their government.

Public Records

Public Records are defined in FOIA as “all records, reports, forms, writings, letters, memoranda, books, papers, maps, photographs, microfilms, cards, tapes, recordings, electronic data processing records, electronic communications, recorded information and all other documentary materials pertaining to the transaction of public business, regardless of physical form or characteristics, having been prepared by or for, or having been or being used by, received by, in the possession of, or under the control of any public body.”  Examples of public records available under FOIA may include contracts, names, orders, reports or studies, rules, titles and salaries of public employees, and voting records of public bodies; this information may be available in electronic or paper format.

Requesting Information

The Itasca Park District’s designated Freedom of Information Officers are Director Maryfran Leno, and Superintendent of Finance, HR & IT, Nathan Kinsinger.  

Requests for production of records may be submitted through the online form available on this page, by email, in writing during office hours at the Itasca Park District Recreation Center (350 E. Irving Park Road), or by fax at 630.773.4524. All requests must clearly state the name, address, and telephone number of the requestor.

Fees for requests are as follows:

  • Black and white copies (letter or legal sized): First fifty (50) pages free, additional pages $0.15 per page
  • Audio Tape/Compact Disk/DVD: $5 per unit
  • Certification: $1 per document
  • Color copies or abnormal sized copies will be charged the actual cost of reproduction. The District may require the requester to disclose whether the request is for a commercial purpose or to decide whether to grant a fee waiver.

In accordance with the law, the Itasca Park District shall respond to all non-commercial requests within five (5) business days after its receipt. Responses to commercial requests will be provided within twenty-one (21) business days of receipt.
